I smell of smoke. My hair, my skin, my clothes. Everything about me smells like burnt something.
That's when i was informed that my dad (being the oldschool/semi-religious/mutli-ethnic that he is) invited his Chinese friend (supposedly a feng shui expert) at home. I guess the 'master' made his usual routine of goin' round the house to check out the 5 elements: Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth.
But i guess the elements were in tune coz his findings were that there are bad spirits in our house - in my parent's, my brother's, and me and my sister's rooms to be exact. He added that that spirit was right underneath my bed. Imagine that, underneath MY bed. And that whowever was sleeping in that bed was a rebel.
The gods must have been kind to him that day. Coz if i was there when he said that, i would have proved him right.
So for 30 days, there should be incense* burning in those rooms- 3 freakin times a day! Imagine, my dad, breaking into our room (morning, afternoon and night) holding 3 incense sticks to place underneath my bed. The smell of smoke is enough to trigger an asthma attack.
Thankfully the word 'bagua' was never mentioned (imagine Kris Aquino and Lotus Feet).
And so... the countdown begins, we are currently on the 3rd day of smoke-filled quarters. 27 days to go. Too bad, the feng shui master didn't recommend shisha. Now THAT would have been a different story.
*Incense is a preparation of aromatic plant matter, often with the addition of essential oils extracted from plant or animal sources, intended to release fragrant smoke for religious, therapeutic, or aesthetic purposes as it smolders. Some studies have shown that people who burn incense often (exposed to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons or PAHs) may be at increased risk for lung and bladder cancer as well as occupational skin and scrotal cancers. The risk of cancer from burning incense will depend on the levels of PAHs given off from the smoke and the length of time of exposure. Some claim the use of incense aggravates allergies and asthma, causing many churches to stop using it. Others do not like scents near meals, and still others associate the smell with drug and hippie subculture.* Wikipedia
